Coronation Street Gail Platt’s soap return ‘sealed’ and fans will not be waiting long

Coronation Street’s Gail Platt made her final appearance on the ITV soap earlier this year after actress Helen Worth announced her exit following 50 years on the cobbles

Coronation Street’s Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, is set to make a return to the cobbles, according to fans.

Gail first graced our screens in 1974 and quickly became one of the soap’s most iconic characters, thanks to her tumultuous love life and dramatic storylines involving her children David (Jack P. Shepherd), Sarah (Tina O’Brien) and Nick Tisley (Ben Price).

Her time in Weatherfield was filled with shocking murders, affairs and plenty of drama. However, last June, it was revealed that Helen was leaving the show.

The 73 year old actress stated: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.”

Gail’s exit storyline revolved around her marriage to Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson), and on Christmas Day 2024, she bid an emotional farewell to the cobbles as she and Jesse jetted off to France to start their new life, reports the Daily Star.

Since then, Gail has been mentioned occasionally, with David even paying her a visit earlier this year. Meanwhile, back on the soap, there’s been plenty of excitement for the rest of her family.

Just last month, David’s wife Shona (Julia Goulding) shared the thrilling news that she’s expecting her first child with David, much to his delight.

With the Platt family set to welcome a new member, Coronation Street fans are convinced they’ve figured out when Gail, the child’s grandmother, will make her return to Weatherfield – and it’s sooner than you might think.

On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer speculated: “Who thinks Gail will return when Shona gives birth?” Another fan echoed this sentiment, saying: “I’d love that, even if it’s a video appearance.” A third agreed: “I thought that as well.”

Meanwhile, in September, actress Julia Goulding, who plays Shona, hinted that her character’s upcoming baby storyline would be far from smooth sailing, promising ‘twists and turns’ on the ITV soap.

When asked by the Mirror if there were exciting scenes ahead and some happy news, Julia responded: “Yeah, not that it’s without its drama.” Keeping her cards close to her chest, she added: “There’s more drama on the way, definitely.”

Julia further teased the upcoming plotline, hinting that it was connected to the new addition to the family. She said: “What can I tease? I don’t know, apart from that there is gonna be lots of twists and turns for them regarding the future of their family… child.”
