Exiting Coronation Street star Channique Sterling-Brown revealed all about her “emotional” final day on set.

The Dee-Dee Bailey actress is soon to depart the ITV soap after quitting after three years in the role. Feeling it was the right time to move on, actress Channique remained coy over what her final scenes would entail.

She did tease a “good” last day on set, while she added her final storyline was “right” for her character’s journey. Teasing the fitting send-off, she didn’t reveal what would happen with Dee-Dee’s love interest Ollie as the pair continue to get closer currently onscreen.

Channique told The Mirror and other press: “I think as an actor, you know, you always kind of want a bit of the drama, right? But I think if anyone deserves happiness it’s Dee-Dee. I can’t say too much about how it ends, but I think how it ends is right for her journey.

“I think no matter what, I think she’s already found that happiness in Laila. And I think that’s beautiful. I really love that she was super adamant about her adoption and stuff like that

“I know some people think, oh, it’s a shame that you didn’t stick with that one. But I actually think people’s minds do change, and I think that’s nice and that’s good, and it’s a really good journey to go on. And so to have been brave enough to be like this is what I need, that takes courage.”

On her final day on set, Channique confessed it was emotional as she reminisced about her first day with her co-stars. She shared: “It was so good. Obviously it was an emotional day but it was lovely.

“I was in the building, and, you know, it was nice to be actually in the building on the last day and be on the street and stuff. And, yeah, it felt very nostalgic, everything, every corridor I was in it was like this is the last time I’m gonna be in the corridor, the last time I’m gonna be in The Rovers.

“So there’s a lot of that for me. But you know, it’s just one of those things, the price of love is loss, right? So I feel it because I love being here, and that’s great, it’s not like I can’t wait to get out of here.”

Adding of what she planned to take with her, she went on: “I was angling for a salt and pepper shaker from Roy’s, but I didn’t manage to get one of those. You know the Santa ones? When I started, I accidentally took the phone in my audition and so Ryan Russell, bless him, was waiting to help me pack my car on my last day.

“The cast very kindly got me some lovely bits. We were stood in the car park. It’s just us. Everyone had gone home. He was like, ‘right there’s where you returned that phone and I thought, that’s Dee-Dee right there’.

“So, yeah, I took home her necklace, her little D necklace. I will be taking plenty of my costumes, she has a great wardrobe. I don’t know where in my house it’s going to fit because my wardrobe is not exactly lacking.

“But it’s still coming with me, and I think I’m gonna try and dig out those little business cards of Dee-Dee’s. I wanna try and find one of them for my little memory box.” On what’s next, Channique wants to try different roles.
