Coronation Street fans have predicted a heartbreaking Gail Platt twist after the soap issued an update on the cobbles legend

Coronation Street has delivered a significant update on Gail Platt nearly 12 months after her departure from the cobbles.

Gail (Helen Worth) first appeared on the ITV soap back in 1974. As the romantically unfortunate mother-of-three, Gail became one of the programme’s most recognisable and cherished characters.

Over the decades, she featured in numerous major storylines. From turmoil involving her children David (Jack P. Shepherd), Sarah (Tina O’Brien) and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) to unexpected killings and infidelities, Gail’s journey in Weatherfield has been packed with drama.

Yet last June, it emerged that Helen was departing the soap – with Helen stating she believed it was the “perfect time” to leave “the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world”, reports the Daily Star.

Gail’s departure centred around her wedding to Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson). On Christmas Day 2024, Gail bid farewell to the cobbles in a poignant hour-long special after she and Jesse departed for France to begin their fresh chapter together.

Since her exit, Gail has been referenced on several occasions – with David even paying her a visit earlier this year. In Monday’s episode (November 3), the soap provided an update on Gail – though viewers have speculated about a devastating development to come.

Throughout the episode, new arrival Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) was included in the street group chat – though she appeared less than impressed. As her phone buzzed repeatedly, Maggie exclaimed: “Why does every single person feel the need to say ‘welcome? !'” She then remarked: “This Gail one is a nuisance an’ all. Which one is she?” Eva then clarified to Maggie that Gail had relocated to France.

In a heart-wrenching blow to Gail, a ruthless Maggie retorted: “Then she has no business being on this forum, and I shall tell her so!”.

However, following the mention of Gail, fans are speculating a tragic twist is on the horizon. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one individual commented: “Not Maggie kicking Gail off the street group chat..”

Another person speculated: “Something bad is going to happen to Gail now she’s been kicked off the chat you watch!” A third proposed a wild theory involving Gail and her new husband Jesse.

They posted: “Hmmm is she still messaging because she’s in danger? Is she ok? Is Jesse keeping her hostage? !” Another concurred: “Anything can happen and I’ve always thought Jesse was dodgy.”
