Coronation Street fans reckon they’ve sussed out the name of David and Shona Platt’s baby, and it’s a tribute to a former cobbles icon.

David (played by Jack P. Shepherd) first fell for Shona (Julia Goulding) back in 2016, oblivious that her son Clayton (Callum Harrison) was responsible for the death of his first wife Kylie (Paula Lane).

Despite discovering the truth, the couple managed to reconcile and tied the knot in 2019. However, their love story has been fraught with numerous hurdles over the years.

These include David being sexually assaulted by Josh Tucker (Ryan Clayton) and Shona losing her memory due to injuries she suffered during a shocking siege on the cobbles.

Their relationship also weathered the storm of Shona’s unexpected infidelity when she had an affair with Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) last year. David forgave Shona for her indiscretion and their romance continued, reports the Daily Star.

However, last month, Shona shared the thrilling news that she was expecting her first child with David – much to his joy. And in Wednesday’s episode (October 15), Shona planned to attend their first baby scan, hoping to discover the baby’s sex.

Regrettably, David got trapped in a lift in town while shopping, so he couldn’t make it. He informed Shona, who decided she didn’t want to go either if David wasn’t there.

With all the baby buzz surrounding the Platts on Coronation Street, fans have already started guessing what David and Shona might name their little one. On a Corrie Facebook fan page, one viewer speculated: “Let’s hope David and Shona’s baby is going to bring some joy to the street! What do we think they will call it?”.

Another fan suggested the name of David’s ex-wife Kylie: “If it’s a girl Kylie.” A third agreed: “Ah yeah that would be sweet.” Another even proposed naming the baby after David’s mum Gail (Helen Worth), writing: “How cute if they name it Gail!”.

If the baby turns out to be a boy, another fan suggested the name Martin, after David’s father (Sean Wilson): “I’m saying Martin if it’s a boy.”

Meanwhile, in September, Julia Goulding, who plays Shona, hinted that her character’s new baby storyline won’t be without its fair share of drama, with plenty of ‘twists and turns’ ahead on the ITV soap.

When asked about exciting scenes and happy news on the horizon, Julia told the Mirror: “Yeah, not that it’s without its drama.” Keeping her cards close to her chest, she added: “There’s more drama on the way, definitely.”

Julia further teased this, hinting that it was related to the upcoming arrival. She said: “What can I tease? I don’t know, apart from that there is gonna be lots of twists and turns for them regarding the future of their family… child..”
