Former Coronation Street star Matt Milburn has spoken about a possible return to the cobbles as Tommy Orpington, having first appeared in the role back in 2016.

After sporadic appearances, it was at the end of 2023, the former footballer appeared far from his Weatherfield County days as he re-appeared on the cobbles, working as a painter and decorator.

He was soon snapped up by Tracy Barlow, who hired him to spruce up the home she shared with husband Steve McDonald and adoptive dad Ken Barlow.

It wasn’t long before Tommy and Tracy were enjoying a fling, behind Steve’s back, before they developed a more serious relationship.

It led to a surprise move to Spain for Tracy, as Tommy got a coaching job abroad. However, when they returned, Tracy insisted on moving back to Weatherfield and Tommy wanted to relocate to Southampton for his latest job, leaving them to go their separate ways.

But in a new interview with Soap Scoop, the weekly podcast from Inside Soap magazine, Matt spoke about his character’s fate as she shared his interest in a possible Tommy reprisal.

He enthused: “There’s room for Tommy to come back! He’s not been killed off. Corrie for me, it’s up there as one of the top jobs. For me personally, it’s perfect.

“You know, I’m a Manc. My family’s from Manchester, it’s filmed in Manchester. Logistically it’s always been great for me as well. I get to see all my family whilst I’m there doing filming.

“It’s such an iconic show and I think if you’re an actor from the north, particularly my age as you’ve grown up with Corrie, I think you’d be mad if it wasn’t on your bucket list of jobs to do.

“I’m really thankful that I’ve had the opportunity to go there and be given a role on it. You never know – there might be a window to come back in the future. Who knows?”
