Coronation Street confirms Becky Swain’s big plan with Betsy after Roy Cropper intervention
Becky’s plan to win her family back looks set to hit a Roy-shaped stumbling block with DI Costello also issuing a warning

Coronation Street has revealed Becky Swain’s big plan with her daughter, Betsy, in a bid to get her family back as Roy Cropper is sucked into the drama.
Those who follow the ITV soap know that the new character made a shock arrival on the cobbles last month, have been discussed previously as the late wife of DS Lisa Swain.
So it would be fair to say that Lisa was shocked when Becky turned up in the living room of her family home, No.6 Coronation Street, on their daughter, Betsy’s, 18th birthday.
With Lisa thinking Becky had died in the line of duty four years earlier, an emotional Lisa was unable to figure out if what was happening was real, Becky explained that she had been in Spain under another name, having been put into witness protection, following an undercover operation gone wrong.
Carla was also left speechless to find Becky in her home, quickly popping her and Lisa’s recent engagement bubble after the detective sergeant finally popped the question.
The Underworld factory boss has since been trying to keep a lid on her emotions as Becky makes her presence felt, and after it was revealed by Corrie producer Kate Brooks that Becky’s plan is to win back her family, it’s no surprise that she seeks the help of Roy.
During Monday’s (October 12) trip to the cobbles, Roy and Carla were seen back on good terms and she was heard asking the cafe owner to keep an eye on Lisa and Becky while she headed to Ireland for a few weeks “Be subtle about it,” she requested.
Now, spoilers for next week’s run of ITV soap have revealed what happens when Roy does pop round to No.6 It starts when Becky shows Lisa a flash drive and assures her that Betsy is going to be fine following her recent arrest.
It leads to a fired-up Lisa calling at the station and reveals she has CCTV evidence proving it wasn’t Betsy who damaged the police car and rails at her boss, DI Costello, for Betsy’s wrongful arrest.
During their confrontation, Costello brought things back to Becky, and admitted Becky wanted to contact Lisa many times but it was too risky.
With Betsy now released, Becky takes a call from Costello who confirms that he’s done his bit by letting Lisa think it’s his fault she stayed away and now it’s up to her to keep her side of the bargain and he wants her gone within a month.
Soon after, Roy arrives at the house to find Lisa and Becky deep in conversation on the sofa, seemingly having enjoyed dinner and wine together. But how much has he actually seen?
Later in the week, an excited Betsy persuades Becky to take her shopping in preparation for their move to Spain. Finding them at home, surrounded by shopping bags, with Betsy skipping work, Lisa demands to know what’s going on. Will they come clean?
It comes as it was confirmed that there’s still plenty drama is still to come as Corrie boss Kate confirmed that Becky is the villain of the story, and that she wants her family back.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News and other press, the soap’s producer told us: “Who is Becky? Where did we find her? So, Becky is, I’m not going to pull any punches, is a bit of a villain. She’s come back, she knows what she wants – she wants her family back. She wants Becky and Lisa back and to oust Carla from this very happy home life that she’s created.
“So we are watching this story develop, and slowly, we’ll start to peel away the layers of Becky and who she is, and what she’s actually capable of.
“At the minute on-screen, we’ve only just scratched the surface but she is capable of many things and the thing that she’s capable of doing the best is reminding Lisa of the life they had.”
Kate continued: “They were together for a long time, they’ve got a child together and there’s that history between them and there’s that love there. Whilst we are very happy and rooting for Carla and Lisa, there’s a history that we can’t ignore and it’s really interesting seeing the reaction from people and how they’re viewing this story.”
She went on to add: “It’s a really exciting story and Becky is someone you don’t want to mess with. She’s got her sights firmly on getting that family back and she’s clever and she’s wily and she stayed dead for four years, she knows what she’s doing and how to lie her way out of situations.
“She is also capitalising on the fact that Lisa is still struggling to process this and what she’s offering is a glimpse of the past and the life they had together. So there’s loads to come.”
