Coronation Street fans say soap has ‘forgotten’ blossoming friendship and demand answers
Coronation Street fans are wanting some answers as they feel the show’s writers have forgotten what they thought was a blossoming friendship between two characters.
As fans of the ITV soap are aware, Dee-Dee Bailey has been having a tough time of late having nearly lost her life following the birth of her first child.
Corrie viewers found out that Dee-Dee was pregnant towards the end of last year as the truth about her ex-Joel Deering’s death was played out in a series of flashback scenes.
After Joel’s murder, Dee-Dee kept her pregnancy a secret as she battled with the decision as to whether to keep her unborn child due to the link to her former fiancé who was exposed as being a groomer.
But when Lauren Bolton’s son, Frankie, who is also Joel’s child, became ill, it became apparent that Dee-Dee’s unborn child could be the one to save him. While she decided to continue with the pregnancy, she decided her child would be put up for adoption.
It was then in dramatic and emotional scenes at the end of March that Dee-Dee went into labour after her initial pains had earlier been dismissed during a visit to the hospital’s maternity unit.
After giving birth to her daughter in an emergency, following a pre-eclampsia diagnosis, the new mother’s concerns continued to be dismissed and she soon fell unconscious.
It was discovered that she was bleeding heavily and Dee-Dee later confirmed doctors had to perform an emergency hysterectomy to save her life, and that she won’t be able to carry any more children
Dee-Dee has since been on a mission to get justice for what happened to her, and others who have faced a similar, if not the same, situation and Corrie fans have been left wondering why DS Lisa Swain hasn’t been of support.
Fans will recall that the pair teamed up last year to bring Joel down and viewers felt a formidable on-screen partnership was forming between the lawyer and the detective sergeant.
Taking to social media, @missmollybruton asked: “Did Corrie forget that Lisa and Dee Dee had quite a good friendship going on??? Like surely Lisa would pop round with everything Dee Dee is going through!?” @SamanthaC261 replied: “Yes! Instead they’ve got Sarah and Alya as her besties…”
@Indigo9944 suggested: “I liked the friendship between Lisa and Dee Dee but in all honesty, I don’t think it was meant to be a genuine friendship. I think it was supposed to be work based, once the Joel case was finished they went there separate ways.”
But @UtdSwarla pointed out: “Dee-Dee stopped talking to lisa wen Lisa questioned her uncle over Joel.” @SwainsCoat echoed: “The issue with accusing Ronnie of murder has a big impact on them.”
