Coronation Street’s Abi receives harsh home truths over Carl – will she be dumped?
Coronation Street aired a major showdown between Abi and Kevin Webster tonight as she received some harsh home truths about Carl, while another truth threatened to reveal itself as well. Tonight’s episode centred around Ronnie Bailey’s birthday party and he gathered the two families together round a table in Bistro. Kevin sat to the left of Abi (who recently broke up with him), Abi sat to the left of Carl (who she cheated on Kevin with), and Carl sat to the left of James (who he is cheating Abi with).
Things for awkward for Carl as the group, especially James, pressured to him to talk about youth travelling in Germany and whether he left a trail of broken hearts there.
James also tried to get all touchy-feely with Carl and suggested another hook-up later — much to Carl’s annoyance.
Over in the other room, Debbie confronted Abi about the affair with Carl and warned her again to end it — but Abi wouldn’t listen.
“I love Carl, and Carl loves me. He’s your brother and all, does his happiness not count?” Abi insisted.
But Debbie warned that she would never be “good enough” to keep Carl happy.
Debbie then went to the bar and warned Kevin to get lawyered up and prepare for a bitter divorce battle, mentioning Abi had a “very nasty streak” and would have her eye on the house.
Abi watched the pair chatting from the table and assumed Debbie has revealed the affair. She sent a text saying “Kev knows about us!!” but mistakenly sent it to Kev himself, rather than Carl.
The secret lovers hatched a plan to delete the message from Kevin’s phone, which Carl managed to do without anyone getting suspicious.
However, the two weren’t out of the woods just yet. Jack and Alfie handed Kevin their tablet to take a video, and he saw the message on there.
Flipping out, Kevin knocked Ronnie’s birthday cake out of Nick Tilsley’s arms and sent in flying, before turning to Abi and Carl and punching his brother.
Carl didn’t make the situation better by telling Kevin that the marriage was “already dead”, which caused Kev to storm out, followed by Abi. Everyone still at the party looked at Carl and asked him how he could do something so heartless to his own brother.
James later cornered Carl and had a go at him for lying to everyone and using Abi, stating that “she deserves to know” that Carl’s been sleeping around behind her back too.
Back at Kevin’s, Abi confessed everything, including that she’d fallen in love with Carl and couldn’t get back with her husband.
Echoing Debbie’s words from earlier, Kevin said: “Carl’s a player, he’ll drop you like a stone when the fun’s over. You don’t even know him. He jumps from girl to girl, doesn’t wanna settle, doesn’t want kids. Doesn’t even like ’em.”
Jack interrupted the argument and said he never wanted to see Abi again, and Kevin kicked her out.
Abi turned up at Carl’s hotel room with Alfie in tow. While he assured that he was on board with the two of them being together openly, he certainly didn’t look it.
