Coronation Street exit demand as Betsy’s arrested – and Becky’s told to leave
Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street‘s Betsy Swain is thrown behind bars next week, as DI Costello threatens to make life worse for her if Becky doesn’t leave Weatherfield behind for good. Will Becky bow down, or risk Betsy suffering even more?
While Kit Green informs Lisa that her daughter has been arrested, Betsy remains holed up in a cell, feeling tired and confused. Eventually, the teenager is brought to an interview room, where a police officer reveals that DI Costello is accusing her of damaging a police car, resisting arrest and trying to attack him. As Betsy refuses to comment, can Becky or Lisa help her out of trouble?

“Becky’s obviously concerned,” explains Amy Cudden, who plays Becky. “She doesn’t want her daughter to be in trouble. But also, Becky’s been living outside of the law for four years now, so she isn’t troubled by what she might have to do to help her daughter out.
“Lisa is very rules-oriented, Becky less so. She’s genuinely concerned, but she knows that she’ll be able to do something about it.”

That said, Costello makes things even worse for Becky and Betsy when he spells out to his ex-colleague that she’d better disappear again – or things will become more difficult for Betsy.
“There is a small, quiet voice in Becky’s head that’s saying, ‘You might have to step away, you might have to leave your family to get on without you,'” reveals Amy.
“But I think Becky’s working really, really hard to ignore that voice. She thinks, ‘I might be getting them in a bit of danger, but I can also fix it.’ She’s got this grandiose complex, ‘Whatever trouble I cause, I can fix everything because they’re my family.’”
Before the arrest drama plays out, Betsy convinces Becky to model designs that she’s come up with for a college project. As Becky struts around No.6, Lisa feels a smile sneak across her face and decides to join in the fun.

Amused, Betsy records the scene and uploads the video online – which supposedly sends Becky into a spin…
“One of Becky’s strategies to soften Lisa and to ingratiate herself into her family is to make them laugh,” says Amy. “To clown for them and to make them giggle; bring the lightness and playfulness to the relationship. The video is born out of that.
“They all let their guards down and have a really good laugh together, and Betsy innocently takes a video. It puts Becky in a certain amount of danger, but Becky isn’t above slightly manipulating her daughter into thinking that she’s made a bigger problem than she actually has.
“It’s not great that Becky’s image is out there, but it’s also weirdly useful for her to play on Betsy and Lisa’s guilt…”
As Becky and Costello’s feud reaches new heights, are the Connor-Swain family in more danger than ever?
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
