Coronation Street star ‘loving life’ as he confirms major role months after being killed off ITV soap
It comes after Luca Toolan’s ‘bittersweet’ exit from the ITV soap earlier this year as Mason Radcliffe
A former Coronation Street star has said he is ‘loving life’ after his ‘bittersweet’ exit from the long-running show as he revealed his new role.
Actor Luca Toolan was part of a huge high school bullying storyline in the ITV soap last year, with his character, Mason Radcliffe, making the life of poor Liam Connor hell.
Roping his friend Dylan Wilson into his cruel taunting, Liam was left contemplating taking his own life in heartbreaking scenes. Mason was eventually charged with threatening with a bladed article in a public space, after setting up Dylan with the knife that was used to threaten a horrified Liam.
After his initial release from Young Offenders, Mason returned to Weatherfield and was quickly taken under the wing of Stu Carpenter, despite opposition from Sean Tully and Maria and Gary Windass.
But as he tried to turn his life around, he struggled to escape his brothers – Matty and Logan – and eventually, the troubled teen was killed by his siblings in a shocking attack, just before he planned to join Stu for a new life in Germany.
But nine months on from his emotional exit, Luca has revealed he’s been busy auditioning for new roles and hinted at a return to our screens in a matter of months.
Speaking to The Sun, Luca said: “I just finished a short film, I’m loving life. This short film was a dream come true, it was a medieval short film… they built a whole set, they built me a sword from scratch. It sounds really nerdy but for me it was so fun.
“And then from that I’m auditioning for film and TV, so I guess within the next six months you might start seeing me on your screens.”.
It comes as Luca was seen reuniting with some of his former co-stars at the 2025 Inside Soap Awards. The ITV soap took home five awards in total, including the top gong of the night for best soap, with Corrie bringing that trophy back home to Manchester for the second year in a row.
Luca was seen picking up one of the awards for his exit storyline alongside Sally Carman-Duttine, whose alter ego, Abi Webster, discovered Mason bleeding and badly wounded in Weatherfield Precinct after he had been stabbed with a “zombie knife” during the altercation with his brothers.
Despite Abi alerting the emergency services and staying with Mason as he fought for his life, Mason passed away in hospital. Mason’s death brought back Abi’s feelings and memories in relation to the death of her son Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) in a hate crime committed by Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) in May 2021.
Viewers began to see her suffer from flashbacks and hallucinations and depression as the post-traumatic stress disorder took a hold on her life.
Mason’s death and Abi’s PTSD won the Best Storyline accolade at the Inside Soap Awards, which took place last Monday night (September 29) in London.
