Coronation Street’s Daniel Brocklebank speaks out on Billy Mayhew’s dramatic exit after 11 years
The actor will mark just over a decade in the role of Billy Mayhew in the ITV soap this December, before his exit is due to air in 2026.
Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has spoken for the first time about the plans for his departure from Weatherfield after 11 years.
The actor will mark just over a decade in the role of Billy Mayhew in the ITV soap this December, before his exit is due to air in 2026.
It was back in 2014 that Daniel took on the role of reformed vicar Billy and in that that time, he has seen his fair share of drama on the cobbles – particularly when it comes to matters of the heart.
But after various ups and downs in the romance department, he eventually fell in love and settled down with Paul Foreman, before his heartbreaking Motor Neurone Disease (MND) diagnosis and eventual death.
It was then in a statement shared with The Mirror earlier this year that Dan confirmed: “I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work.
“I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.”
At the time, show bosses confirmed that the character will be “tested in ways he never imagined” over the coming months, which will ultimately lead to the him bowing out in a top-secret story.
Now, speaking to Digital Spy, Daniel has offered an update on his exit plot. He confessed: “I know what my storyline is! Of course I’m not going to tell you that, but yes I do know. I am [happy with it]. I think it’s befitting…”
He also reflected on his tenure on the cobbles while on the red carpet at the Inside Soap Awards 2025. “It’s a mixed bag of feelings,” he admitted to the publication.
“I am so excited. I’ve been an actor for 32 years, 11 of which have been spent at Corrie. Which is a long time – a third of my career has been spent there. I will of course miss going into work every day.”
But the soap star confirmed: “I won’t miss the people because I’ll see them all the bloody time anyway! All my mates that I see at work, I’ll see them all the time.”
It comes as fans have been speculating over how Billy could end up leaving Weatherfield, with some admitting its not looking good for the character due to his close relationship with Todd Grimshaw, who is currently finding himself in a coercively controlling romantic relationship with Theo Silverton.
