Emmerdale star Emma Atkins has teased all the explosive drama that could potentially unfold if her character Charity Dingle’s one night stand with Ross Barton is revealed, stating that all the fallout could make some great TV.

Charity recently pledged to carry a baby to give to her granddaughter Sarah Sugden, which annoyed her other half Mackenzie Boyd as she recently told him she didn’t want to have a child with him.

Making things even messier is that Charity finds out today that the baby is a product of that hook-up with Ross, who she already had son Moses with back in the day. If Mack finds out about the truth, could their already-fraught relationship be over?

“I don’t think you could get over something like that, certainly not if you carry it full term,” she said. “Having said that, you could argue that it would be a sort of eye for an eye.”

Atkins is referring to the fact that Mack has done something similar, having a child with Chloe Harris while with Charity, and feels like Charity would absolutely bring that up and call him out for it.

“It’s almost like a mirror image of what Mack and Chloe did to Charity,” Atkins explained. “You can draw parallels on this. So, in some ways, Charity would have a good argument. She would have something in her arsenal that she’d say, ‘actually, you’re going to have to forgive me because of what you did to me’. However, life isn’t like that, is it?

“I don’t know whether there is any coming back from this, but… it will be good TV because it will simmer for a while, and then, obviously, we know that secrets and lies do have a way of coming out, one way or another…”

With Ross, Atkins didn’t specifically touch on how Ross would react to the baby news, but noted that the two characters have a great dynamic.

“They are each other’s allies, and they’ve got each other’s backs, and yet they can’t stand one another,” she said. “So it makes for really good TV, I think, because there is that sparkiness there, a love to hate situation.”
