Nancy Lee Grahn originated the role of Alexis Davis on General Hospital in 1996. She is part of the Cassadine family, being born Princess Natasha Alexandra Mikkosovna Cassadine, the daughter of Mikkos Cassadine and his mistress, Kristin Bergman.
Nancy Lee Grahn As Alexis Davis
As a child, Alexis witnessed Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) kill her mother by slitting her throat. That instance, and growing up with the evil Cassadines, shaped the person Alexis is today.
She is a top-notch attorney, but that hasn’t stopped her from getting into scary situations and even committing her fair share of crimes, including blackmail, hit-and-run, and murder.
Alexis was married multiple times, most notably to Julian Jerome (William deVry). The couple had a tumultuous marriage due to his mob connections. Julian was also the father of her daughter, Sam (Kelly Monaco), from a teenage pregnancy while she was in boarding school.
The attorney has two other daughters. Molly’s (Kristen Vaganos) dad is Ric (Rick Hearst), and Kristina’s (Kate Mansi) father is Ric’s estranged brother, Sonny (Maurice Benard).
Alexis in 2024
2024 was a particularly difficult year for Alexis. She dealt with Kristina losing the baby she was carrying for her sister, and then an epic battle between the girls. Their mother was heartbroken.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Sam’s sudden death was excruciating for her mom. Just as she was recovering from donating part of her liver to Lulu (Alexa Havens), she was a victim of Cyrus’s (Jeff Kober) digitalis killing spree. The scenes with Alexis holding her lifeless daughter in the hospital after her death were raw and emotional, and Grahn’s acting as the grieving mom was sensational.
Grahn has portrayed Alexis at her best and at her worst. She is witty, emotional, smart, tortured, and raw all at once. The actress always nails it, but 2024 was a standout year.
Grahn’s Daytime Emmy History
Grahn has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy a whopping 18 times in her career, in both the Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Lead Actress Categories.
She has won the award twice: in 1989 for her portrayal of Julia Wainwright on Santa Barbara, and in 2012 for her portrayal of Alexis Davis on General Hospital.
