Former Coronation Street actor Steven Arnold seemed to be turned away from Ricky Hatton’s funeral on Friday, as mourners gathered to pay tribute to the boxing icon. The service was held at Manchester Cathedral and attracted a host of celebrities from the worlds of television, music, and sport.

Hatton, who tragically passed away at his home last month aged 46, was one of Britain’s most cherished boxers, securing world titles in two weight divisions during his career. Following a procession through Manchester, a ceremony was held at the city’s cathedral to celebrate his life.

After the service, there was a visit to the Etihad Stadium, the home ground of Hatton’s beloved Man City.

As attendees arrived for the service, security personnel were stood at the entrance conducting checks. A clip aired on Sky News shows former Coronation Street star Arnold, known for his role as Ashley Peacock in the soap, seemingly being stopped at the door while speaking with several security guards and a staff member who appeared to be checking a list.

It remains unclear whether he was ultimately denied entry, but speculation arose on social media after the video was shared, reports the Express.

“Did we just see Ashley from Coronation Street get turned away from the Funeral on Sky News?” one individual posted on X. Another responded: “That’s definitely what happened, wasn’t it.”

Arnold played the character in the Manchester-set Coronation Street for 15 years from 1995 to 2010. He has since featured in several short films.

Former Manchester United and England forward Wayne Rooney, along with Oasis’ Liam Gallagher, were among the attendees at Hatton’s service. A host of boxing greats, including Tyson Fury, Barry McGuigan, and Amir Khan, also paid their respects.

At the funeral, Khan shared: “He was a fantastic fighter, one of the best out there. He obviously inspired so many fighters like us.

“He’ll be definitely remembered as one of the greatest to come out of Britain. Very jolly, very fun, a very respected person and very nice. He was always a people’s champion.

“It’s great to be here to see so many of the boxing community come together to show our respect. Hundreds on the streets – that shows he was a popular man.”

Emotional tributes were also given by Hatton’s family as the boxing legend was laid to rest. Thousands gathered in the streets, which were filled with well-wishers as the procession moved from Stockport Road to the Cathedral for the service.

The boxer’s nearest and dearest then attended a private committal service.

Hatton, who is said to be leaving a £35 million fortune to his family, leaves behind his three children, Campbell, 24, Millie, 13, and Fearne, 12.
