Emmerdale stars finally address the Vinny & Lewis romance rumours! Could their innocent friendship turn into something more? Fans are divided — and Mandy’s reaction is priceless
Emmerdale fans have been buzzing with theories about a possible romance between Lewis Barton and Vinny Dingle — and now, the stars themselves are weighing in.
Recent episodes have hinted at growing chemistry between the two, especially as Vinny continues to struggle with doubts about his sexuality. Next week’s spoilers suggest that things could get even more complicated, sparking fresh speculation about whether their friendship could turn into something more.
Vinny’s Struggles and Lewis’s Support
In upcoming scenes, Vinny (Bradley Johnson) is doing everything he can to save his marriage to Gabby Thomas after confessing that he’s been questioning his sexuality. Despite their mutual effort to repair things — with Gabby even suggesting counselling — Vinny finds unexpected comfort in Lewis (Bradley Riches).
When Lewis steps in to support Vinny at the café, Gabby walks in just in time to see them sharing a hug. While the moment is innocent, the emotional charge between them has fans wondering if it could signal something deeper.
“Only Time Will Tell”
Speaking on the red carpet at the Inside Soap Awards 2025, Bradley Riches reflected on the pair’s dynamic. “It’s having someone from the queer community helping him and saying, ‘It’s not weird to think these things. Everyone’s journey with their sexuality is different,’” he explained.
Riches added, “It’s exciting to see that conversation and how a new friendship might blossom. It’s nice to see someone who’s not sure about themselves being welcomed by someone who is very sure of themselves.”
When asked whether their bond could turn romantic, he teased: “Who knows? Only time will tell. I think at the beginning it’s definitely a friendship. Every good relationship starts with friendship, and that’s a good place to begin.”
Bradley Johnson and Lisa Riley Weigh In
Vinny actor Bradley Johnson shared his own take on the storyline, describing his character as “quite vulnerable” at this stage. “Lewis is a shoulder to cry on for Vinny and he’s been a great support,” he said. “They’re both geeky, lovable characters — two unique people helping and supporting each other. It’s brilliant.”
Meanwhile, Lisa Riley, who plays Vinny’s mum Mandy Dingle, couldn’t hide her affection for the on-screen pairing. “It proves you don’t have to be cool — and that’s my favourite thing to watch!” she said proudly. “Not being cool is actually really cool!”
For now, Emmerdale fans will have to wait and see whether Lewis and Vinny’s connection remains platonic or blossoms into something deeper. But with Vinny’s personal journey only just beginning — and Lewis proving to be a steady, accepting presence — it’s clear this storyline is set to spark heartfelt conversations across the Dales.
